The Tarot: Mirror of the Soul and Voice of the Invisible
Share
Tarot is much more than just a game: it is a sacred tool that allows us to explore the soul, of both humans and animals.
Each card is a living symbol, a bridge between the visible and the invisible, capable of revealing the needs, emotions and paths of growth of all sentient beings.
Through the major arcana, the tarot reveals the major stages of inner evolution, whether it is a human being in search of meaning or an animal seeking balance.
The minor arcana translate the subtle movements of everyday life: emotions, challenges, relationships, whether human or animal.
Using tarot is connecting with the deep intuition that animates all life.
It is not a fixed tool of prediction, but a spiritual mirror that illuminates invisible dynamics and guides towards harmony, understanding and healing.
Whether it is to better understand one's own path or to accompany an animal with love and respect, tarot offers a vibrant key to dialogue with the soul beyond words.
I. ORIGINS OF TAROT: BETWEEN ART AND SPIRITUALITY
The first known Tarot cards appeared in Europe in the 15th century, particularly in Northern Italy (Visconti-Sforza Tarot). Initially an aristocratic court game, they gradually became tools of initiation. In the 18th century, French occultists such as Court de Gébelin and Etteilla discovered in these images a symbolic wisdom that, they believed, came from ancient Egypt.
Modern Tarot is today nourished by several traditions:
- Alchemy
- Kabbalah
- Astrology
- Shamanism
- Jungian psychology
- The oracular traditions of indigenous peoples
II. STRUCTURE OF THE TAROT: 78 CARDS, A COMPLETE UNIVERSE
1. The 22 Major Arcana
They represent the major stages of human and spiritual life. These are the Archetypes. Each card is a door:
Examples :
The Magician (I): potential, beginning, nascent mastery
The Magician — Arcana I
The Magician represents beginnings, the will to act, and raw potential.
With his wolf's head, symbol of instinct and intelligence, he embodies the mastery of the first steps on the path to achievement.
Standing before his table where the symbols of the four elements are placed (the cup, the sword, the staff and the penny), he knows that everything is within him, ready to be awakened.
The Magician invites us to dare to initiate, to believe in our inner power and to launch out with confidence, even without knowing everything yet.
It is a card of vitality, creativity and initiative, announcing that all the necessary resources are already available.
> "It all begins with a confident gesture: you carry within you all the keys to your destiny."
The Empress (III): creativity, intuition, active feminine
The Empress — Arcana III
The Empress embodies creativity, fertility and intuitive wisdom.
With its majestic lioness head, it symbolizes gentle strength, protective motherhood, and sovereign generosity.
She reigns not by constraint but by inspiration: her power is natural, radiant, rooted in the living earth and in the intelligence of the heart.
It invites us to create, nourish and grow what is right and beautiful, whether it is a project, a relationship or an inner journey.
His presence affirms that true power lies in the ability to give life, to listen to one's intuition and to cultivate the beauty of the world.
> "Creator of worlds, she shapes life with love, wisdom and inner power."
Justice (VIII): balance, discernment, karmic law
Justice — Arcana VIII
The Justice card embodies balance, truth, and responsibility.
Here, represented by a solemn figure with a human body and an owl's head, she symbolizes a sharp wisdom capable of discerning impartially.
The owl, a nocturnal creature, sees beyond appearances; it perceives the invisible and illuminates the dark areas of the human heart. Its presence reminds us that true justice is lucid, silent, and internal.
The scale held in the left hand measures actions, intentions and their consequences.
The sword raised in the right hand affirms that every decision must be made with firmness and fairness.
The red dress evokes controlled passion: human justice must know how to recognize emotions without allowing itself to be dominated by them.
Justice does not judge to condemn, but to restore order, repair imbalances and align each being with their own inner truth.
> "See beyond appearances, cut with wisdom and align yourself with your inner truth."
The Devil (XV): attachments, instincts, shadows to cross
The Devil — Arcana XV
The Devil symbolizes the dark side, uncontrolled desires, and illusions to which the human soul can be chained.
In this card, the raven's head, a messenger bird between worlds, reminds us that the most powerful traps do not come from outside, but from our own fears and attachments.
The Devil confronts us with our addictions, our impulses, but also with our misunderstood creative power.
He teaches that true freedom comes from the moment we recognize our chains... and consciously choose to break them.
Far from being only negative, The Devil invites us to look fearlessly at what holds us prisoner in order to find our authentic strength.
> "Recognize your chains: they have no power other than that which you grant them."
The World (XXI): realization, union of the self and the Whole
The World — Arcane XXI
The World represents total accomplishment, realization and perfect harmony between all planes of being.
On this card, the central figure (here with the head of a majestic tiger) symbolizes the inner strength, nobility and serenity that one achieves after a long path of evolution.
The crown that surrounds it embodies the eternal return, the completed cycle, where each stage finally finds its place.
The four figures at the corners of the card (the angel, the eagle, the bull and the lion) watch over and bear witness to the mastery of the four elements: Air, Water, Earth and Fire.
The World teaches that true victory lies not in outward power, but in the union of body, soul, and spirit.
It is a card of success, fulfillment and inner freedom.
> "All is accomplished: you are in your rightful place, master of your inner and outer universe."
The Fool (without a number or 0) is unique : it symbolizes the soul on its way, free and unconditioned. It is often associated with the Wolf or Dog Totem Animal, which accompanies it in illustrations.
The Fool — Arcane 0
The Fool embodies the spontaneous impulse of the soul that sets out on an adventure without fear.
On this card, depicted with the head of a black Spitz, it symbolizes pure trust, the joy of exploring, and fidelity to the inner path.
The animal's lively and innocent gaze reminds us that instinct guides better than fear.
The Fool moves forward freely, carried by his intuition and not by conventions.
It invites us to leap into the unknown, to trust the mystery of life, even if everything seems uncertain.
He teaches that true travel is that of the open heart and free mind, far from imposed limits.
Here, the lightness of the little dog embodies the beauty of following one's inner calling without being weighed down by doubts.
> "Move forward freely, with an open heart, carried by trust and instinct."
The Lover: Life Choices, Where Love, Commitment and Inner Truth
The Lover — Arcana VI
The Lover speaks of the choice of the heart, sacred union and inner harmony.
Featuring two crowned cranes—symbols of faithful love and eternal partnership—this card reminds us that true bonds are born from freedom, respect, and shared awareness.
The Lover invites us to align ourselves with our inner truth in order to choose wisely: to follow not fear nor reason alone, but the deep voice of the soul.
It is a card of commitment, of balanced fusion between desire and wisdom, between oneself and the other.
She teaches that true love always begins with self-knowledge and being true to one's own path.
> "Choose with an awakened heart: true love is born from conscious and free union."
The Wheel of Fortune: Change, Cycle, Destiny, Opportunity, Evolution, Movement, Luck, Transformation
The Wheel of Fortune — Arcana X
The Wheel of Fortune symbolizes the cycles of life, inevitable changes, and constant evolution.
With the golden frog—a creature of both land and water, bringing luck and prosperity—this card reminds us that nothing is fixed: everything evolves according to the laws of destiny.
The wheel turns, sometimes bringing opportunities, sometimes challenges.
It teaches us to embrace the movement of life with flexibility and confidence, because behind every change lie opportunities for growth.
The Wheel of Fortune invites us to recognize that apparent chance is often the expression of a greater order and that the essential thing is to remain centered during the turning points of existence.
> "Everything turns and transforms: choose to dance with the movement of life."
The sun: confidence, joy, success
The Sun — Arcane XIX
The Sun symbolizes success, pure joy, and rediscovered inner light.
With the lion's head, majestic and radiant, this card expresses vitality, quiet strength and shining truth.
Under the protective gaze of the Sun, everything flourishes freely: the soul regains its natural radiance, relationships are illuminated, projects are accomplished with confidence.
The lion here embodies the pride of being oneself, the strength to dare to shine without mask or fear.
The Sun announces that the time has come to celebrate, to share its light, and to move forward with certainty on its path to accomplishment.
> “Radiate your truth: the light you seek is already within you.”
2. The 56 Minor Arcana
Divided into 4 families associated with the elements: In the Tarot, each element embodies a fundamental force of life.
They structure human experience and offer keys to understanding the dynamics of the inner and outer world.
> "Master the elements: the fire of your action, the water of your heart, the air of your mind, and the earth of your creation."
Cups (water, emotions) : Symbol of feelings, intuition, and receptivity. It reminds us of the importance of welcoming our emotions and cultivating compassion.
The Cup — Symbol of Water
The Cup represents the emotional world, intuition, and deep receptivity.
She embodies the ability to welcome emotions, to feel fully, and to offer love without expectation.
Full or empty, the Cup teaches the balance between giving and receiving, between opening and protecting.
Carried by Water, the Cup invites us to honor our sensitivity, to listen to the inner voice that knows even before reason understands.
It is a card of compassion, sincere connection, and emotional cleansing.
> "Open your heart: the water of the soul reveals the beauty of being."
Wands (fire, action) : Symbol of will, creative energy, and action. It invites you to radiate your life force and undertake with courage.
The Staff — Symbol of Fire
The Wand embodies creative force, vital energy and the will to act.
It is the first impulse, the inner flame that pushes us to undertake, to explore and to surpass ourselves.
It is the symbol of the power of manifestation: transforming an idea into reality through movement and boldness.
Carried by Fire, the Staff teaches us that inspiration alone is not enough: it must be anchored in action to bring forth creation.
This card invites you to dare, initiate and believe in your own inner light.
> “Light your inner fire: dare to create, move forward and shine.”

Planted in the earth, it affirms that the power of the mind must be anchored in reality to express its full strength.
The Sword cuts through illusions, reveals what is hidden, and invites us to choose the path of integrity.
It teaches that challenges are overcome not by brute force, but by clarity of mind, inner justice, and the courage to face the truth.
This card calls for finding the balance between lucid analysis and openness of heart, in order to act with justice.
> "Let your mind be clear: cut through the shadows to reveal your inner truth."
Coins (earth, matter) : Symbol of concrete achievement, abundance, and grounding. It speaks of prosperity, stability, and a deep connection to matter.
The Denarius — Symbol of the Earth
The Denier embodies stability, material achievement and anchoring in reality.
Placed on fertile soil, it represents prosperity built through effort, the tangible reward of patiently cultivated seeds.
The Denarius teaches that true wealth lies not only in accumulation, but in the ability to nurture what grows with patience, respect, and perseverance.
He reminds us that every seed planted with awareness carries within it the promise of a flourishing future.
This card is an invitation to honor the Earth, to embody its projects, and to welcome the abundance that is born from the harmonious link between spirit and matter.
“Root your dreams in matter: prosperity is born from the alliance between patience and trust.”
Each suit starts with the Ace and goes through the 10, followed by four face cards: Jack, Knight, Queen, and King. The Minor Arcana tell stories of everyday life, inner dynamics, and scenes from the human experience. They can also be used to describe specific aspects of the body, habitat, or animal relationships (the Knight of Pentacles can represent a loyal companion, for example).
III. A KEY TO SYMBOLIC INTERPRETATION
Tarot speaks in images. Every detail counts: colors, postures, animals, objects. This symbolic language penetrates the unconscious and directly touches the inner being.
Examples :
A sword pointing to the sky = mental clarity, justice
A crown = achievement, accomplished power
An animal = instinct, guide, connection with deep nature (The Chariot is often pulled by sphinxes, lions, or horses, each carrying a specific message)
IV. TAROT AS A TOOL OF DIVINATION
Tarot doesn't predict a fixed future. It reveals trends, forces at play, and blockages that need to be addressed. It allows you to:
- Clarify a situation
- Receive a message from the soul or guides
- See the energies of a choice
- Bringing unconscious fears to light
It is a tool for empowerment: you create your reality, the Tarot shows you what you can transform. In intuitive consultation or personal ritual, it can also be used to dialogue with the animal world (totem animals, allied spirits, life companions).
V. TYPES OF PRINTS
A card: energy of the day, spiritual advice
- Three cards: past / present / future or blockage / resource / advice
- Celtic Cross: 10 Cards for a Deep Look
- Astrological wheel draw, chakras, karmic connection, animal soul draw, etc.
Each reading can be intuitive or ritualized. The key is presence and intention. A reading for an animal (living or deceased) can help you understand a behavior, a need, or a subtle message emanating from it.
VI. TAROT & PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
Tarot is a medicine for the soul. It is used to:
- Identify repeating patterns
- Uncovering transgenerational blockages
- Illuminating a life mission
- Working with the shadow (projection, fear, injury)
- Activate your creative potential
Linked to psychology (especially Jung), Tarot becomes a tool for healing the unconscious. Used in energy healing or as a therapy accompaniment, it can also be a support in accompanying animal mourning or a life transition shared with an animal (end of life, adoption, change of location).
VII. SPIRITUALITY & TAROT: A SACRED RITUAL
Before a draw:
Centering, breathing
Creation of a sacred space (incense, candle, stone)
Invocation: guides, higher self, Tarot energy, animal spirit (as part of an animal bond)
After the draw:
Integration
Writing, tarot journal
Concrete action aligned with guidance
Tarot becomes a practice of connection, faith, and subtle listening. Some animal therapists use symbolic readings to sense an animal's emotions or blockages, or to help the keeper hear what the animal is teaching.
VIII. TAKING CARE OF YOUR TAROT
Purify it regularly (fumigation, moon, earth recharging)
Honor him: surround him with gratitude, silence, respect
Connect it to living objects (feathers, animal hair, leaves, stones) to amplify the symbolic link
The Tarot is a living ally. It connects with you, accompanies you, and reveals you. And through it, you can forge a bond with all living things.
IX. The Tarot and its Use with Animals
Tarot is not just for humans: it is also a sacred bridge for communicating with the animal world.
Animals, whether domestic or wild, are sentient, conscious beings, deeply connected to the energy of the Earth.
Tarot allows us to connect with their subtle essence, to understand their needs, their emotions, and sometimes even their spiritual missions to us.
Using tarot with animals means:
- Listen to what cannot be said with words.
- Interpret their inner state: well-being, worry, deep desires.
- Support their emotional, physical or energetic development.
- Honor their place as soul companions on our life path.
Each draw can answer questions like:
- How can I help my pet thrive?
- Is there a message he's trying to convey to me?
- What is he going through at the moment on his life path?
- With respect, gentleness and intuition, the tarot then becomes a sacred tool of support,
to better understand our animals and honor their silent wisdom.
Small ritual for drawing tarot for an animal
1. Prepare the space
Create a calm and peaceful place where your pet feels safe.
You can light a candle or place a crystal (like rose quartz or amethyst) next to your game.
2. Center yourself
Close your eyes for a few moments.
Take three deep breaths, and connect through intention with your animal's soul.
Smile inwardly as you think of him, without forcing anything.
3. Formulate an intention internally
For example :
> "I ask to receive, through these cards, the clearest and most benevolent messages to accompany [Name of the animal] on his path."
4. Shuffle the cards
Pay attention: sometimes your pet will approach the game or point to a card!
Otherwise, follow your intuition and let one or more cards fall naturally.
5. Interpret with the heart
Let yourself be guided by the image, the emotion felt, and the special bond that unites you with your companion.
It's not just about mentally interpreting: feel what the message evokes in your heart.
Formula of intention before an animal draw :
> "I connect with love and respect to the soul of [Animal's Name].
May the cards reveal what can guide him, relieve him or elevate him, for his greater good."
Practical :
3-card draw for Animals
1. Card 1 — Message from the Heart
> What is my pet feeling deep down right now?
(This card illuminates his inner emotional state, even if he doesn't show it outwardly.)
2. Map 2 — Current Need
> What is his most important need now?
(Physical, emotional or energetic—this reveals what might help or comfort him.)
3. Card 3 — Path of Harmony
> What can I do to best support him?
(This card gives advice for action: attitude to adopt, care to give, or simply a different presence.)
How to use this draw?
Draw a card for each position, without rushing.
Feel the energy of each card by thinking about your animal, without seeking an immediate intellectual interpretation.
Let the emotion, the inner images, the subtle intuitions come: animals often communicate through energy rather than precise ideas.
Little tip :
If your pet is present, also observe its reaction to the draw (look, movement, behavior).
Sometimes it “responds” energetically!
1-Card Draw: Essential Message from the Animal
Question :
> “What is the most important message my pet wants to convey to me here and now?”
How to do it:
Gently focus on your animal (if it is physically present, look at it or think of it tenderly).
Shuffle your tarot deck with this question in mind.
Draw a single card.
Interpretation :
Let yourself be guided by the energy and emotion that the image of the card gives off.
Ask yourself :
How do you feel when you look at this card for your pet?
What action, thought or attitude does this inspire in you for him?
Small optional ritual:
After the draw, you can thank your partner out loud or inwardly for the trust they place in you.
Example of formula before drawing the card:
> "I connect to the heart of [Animal Name].
I ask to receive through this card the message he wishes to convey to me today."
5-Card Spread: The Evolution of the Animal
1. Map 1 — Current State
> What is the main energy that drives my animal today?
2. Card 2 — Deep Need
> What is his basic need at this time in his life?
3. Card 3 — What supports him
> What strength, quality or presence helps him on his path?
4. Card 4 — What can hinder it
> What obstacle or fear is slowing down its development?
5. Map 5 — Direction of its evolution
> What is my animal tending towards internally?
How to use this draw :
Draw the cards one by one, without rushing.
Let yourself be guided by intuition rather than pure logic.
Observe emotional resonances: your animal often sends you subtle feelings during the draw.
Advice :
After reading the spread, you can place the 5 cards in front of you like a small visual path: from your present state to your inner future.
Intention formula before the 5-card draw:
> "With love and respect, I ask to receive through these cards the keys to understand, support and honor the evolution of [Animal's Name]."
CONCLUSION
Tarot is not an external oracle. It is a path back to oneself. It is a conversation between your conscious self and your deepest wisdom. It is also a link to others, to animals, to the elements.
> Tarot does not give answers, it awakens yours.
What if every card was a mirror? What if every reading was an invitation to love who you are—and everything that lives around you?
