Red Garnet, History, Symbolism and Virtues

Red Garnet – Flame of life, grounding and power of the blood

1. History & Origin

Garnet gets its name from the Latin “granatum,” meaning “pomegranate,” in reference to its red crystals that resemble the seeds of the fruit.

Known since ancient times, garnet was worn as a protective amulet by warriors, travelers, alchemists and healers.

In ancient traditions:

It symbolized passion, life force and loyalty

The Vikings buried their dead with garnets to light their path to the afterlife.

In India and Central Asia, it was believed to protect against poison and betrayal.
