LFG Paris – French Gemmology Laboratory
Founded in 1929, the Laboratoire Français de Gemmologie (LFG), based in Paris, is the oldest gemological laboratory in Europe. It is a national and international reference in the analysis, identification, and certification of precious, fine, and ornamental stones.
Independent, impartial, and recognized for the rigor of its expertise, the LFG issues official certificates that attest to the nature, characteristics (weight, size, color, purity, possible treatment), and origin of the gems analyzed. These documents are guarantees of trust and transparency, both for jewelry professionals and for collectors and individuals.
Its main missions:
- Identification of gems (diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, rubies, opals, etc.)
- Detection of treatments (heating, irradiation, resins, dyes, etc.)
- Assessment and certification (quality, potential geographical origin)
- Training and awareness of gemology through courses and conferences
Why use the LFG?
- To validate the authenticity of a gemstone
- To obtain a certificate recognized by professionals and ensure the traceability of a piece of jewelry
- To protect buyers and designers from undeclared synthetic or treated gems
- To benefit from independent, objective and French expertise
Recognition & Value
The LFG is affiliated with the Paris Île-de-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It enjoys a reputation for excellence, particularly among major jewelry houses, and collaborates with the biggest players in the sector.
The stones are meticulously analyzed from a number of batches, but this method obviously comes at a cost. It is impossible to have every stone and pearl appraised. However, this method nevertheless ensures maximum security regarding the quality and authenticity of the stones.
This is why I have no doubt about the sincerity of my supplier who can guarantee me excellent quality stones and pearls.
In some authenticity reports, you may notice that stones or pearls are treated with polymer impregnation, which strengthens a naturally porous stone. This does not affect the quality of the product in any way.
